Overview
Mother Nature is innovative because it gamifies environmental data to promote climate justice, which in turn encourages behaviour change. The game de-centres narratives around the history of science and innovation, foregrounding a strong, Black female avatar as the lead protagonist who calls on players to take part in spectacular missions to combat the climate emergency. It is aimed at a primary target audience of global young people aged 12 – 25.
Key Objectives
- To create a game that appeals to young people with themes of climate change.
- Aimed at 12-25 year olds.
- Creating a game to gamify climate justice and encourage behavioural change.
The Approach
- Working with Powered by Can, a youth group project in the Black Country in the West Midlands, girls aged between 11-18 helped to co-design the experiences.
- Using Unity to develop the Endless Runner game and VR experience.
- Available on mobile and VR
- Characters modelled in Blender
The Results
Mother Nature is an ongoing project and has been showcased at the V&A’s Digital Design weekend which was attended by 3,500 visitors.
