Mother Nature VR is part of a wider multi-platform project focused on sustainability and climate justice. In this immersive experience, audiences are guided by a powerful Black female avatar who invites them to learn about the climate crisis and take action. The VR format creates space for empathy, agency, and understanding — gamifying environmental data to drive real-world change.
What We Did
– We co-designed the experience with Powered by CAN, a youth organisation in the Black Country, involving girls aged 11–18 in shaping the story, characters, and structure. Our contributions included:
– Developing a VR experience using Unity, tailored for young audiences
– Creating stylised 3D characters in Blender
– Designing interactive and narrative moments that translate complex climate data into accessible, emotionally resonant learning
– Ensuring the experience promotes behavioural change while centring underrepresented voices in science and innovation
Impact
Mother Nature VR was showcased at the V&A’s Digital Design Weekend, reaching over 3,500 visitors. As an ongoing project, it continues to evolve through community collaboration and aims to inspire a new generation of environmental leaders.
