Overview

Hidden Kingdoms is a travel companion app, designed to help anxious people, especially vulnerable young adults or people with hidden disabilities, to make real-world journeys, and overcome barriers to engage with society.

By guiding you along the way with spatialised audio and breathing techniques, Hidden Kingdoms is ongoing support in your pocket, making a positive difference to your wellbeing.

Key Objectives

  • Easy to use and navigate
  • Prompts to check-in on the users progress
  • Include artist-commissioned designs
  • Incentives to encourage completing journeys and using the app
  • Include spatialised audio and breathing techniques.

The Approach

  • Commissioned artist to create characters, commissioned spatialised audio and meditations from artists which can be accessed throughout the entire journey.
  • These sounds draw on research exploring the benefits of spending time in nature and spatial audio’s potential for overcoming sensory sensitivity.
  • Creatures are unlocked after each journey to encourage and provide incentives for people to use the app.
  • Use Google’s API  to track user journeys.
  • Created on Unity

The Results

Hidden Kingdoms is an ongoing project.

  • Available on iOS and Android
  • Interest from neurodivergent communities
  • Downloaded 100+ times through initial marketing
  • 590+ sessions on iOS
