Route 34: Embracing Cultures

As part of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, we created an augmented reality experience that brought Caribbean fashion and culture to life. Route 34: Embracing Cultures honoured the 11 Caribbean nations that participated in the Games, transforming intricate carnival costumes into a vivid digital celebration.

What We Did
– We collaborated with celebrated costume designer Clary Salandy of Mahogany Arts to digitise her extraordinary designs and turn them into interactive, wearable AR pieces. Our contribution included:
– High-fidelity 3D modelling and texturing of elaborate Caribbean carnival costumes
– Designing and building an AR experience where users could virtually try on the digital costumes
– Ensuring the experience celebrated authenticity, culture, and creativity through technical precision and artistic integrity

Impact
Route 34 launched as a powerful digital tribute to Caribbean identity, heritage, and celebration. By blending fashion and immersive technology, the experience invited users to engage with cultural narratives in an inclusive, playful, and deeply respectful way.
