Bringing Perry the Mascot to Life

In partnership with Birmingham2022 Commonwealth Games, we had the privilege to redefine engagement through their incredible mascot, Perry.

Birmingham Open Media partnered with Birmingham 2022 to bring Perry the Mascot into the digital world. Our challenge: create an animated and interactive version of Perry that could be experienced by everyone, anywhere — without relying solely on in-person events.

What We Did
We designed and developed a hyper-realistic 3D avatar of Perry and made him accessible through multiple platforms.

We created:
– An interactive Instagram filter, launching the viral #PoseWithPerry selfie campaign
– A WebAR version of Perry that worked directly in mobile browsers — no app required
– A WebGL interactive 3D portal where users could explore Perry’s personality and moves

These tools allowed Perry to travel across the globe digitally, boosting engagement and inclusivity in a way that was playful, shareable, and scalable.

Impact
Perry’s AR launch reached millions of users online, generating widespread interaction and social media buzz. The campaign made Perry a household name and helped the Games connect with diverse communities in new and exciting ways.
