Showcase Time!
Last week, we celebrated the end of our most recent Immersive Arts Bootcamp with a showcase!
Our talented bootcampers began the programme in September and after 12 weeks, they have achieved so much, learning to use Unreal Engine, developing Blender skills and applying their knowledge to create their own immersive projects.
Guided by our experienced team
Under the guidance of our bootcamp team, the cohort were taught by Taran Singh, our CTO who leads BOM’s Immersive Studio and XR projects; Gurvinder Bisran, our award-nominated 3D Modeling specialist; Akshay Raman, our Unreal Engine and Virtual Production pro and Ebenezer Kazadi who is experienced with Unreal Engine and is part of our engagement team, delivering schools outreach and upskilling young people with digital skills.
Together, they’re a supercharged team who have supported the bootcampers to realise their projects. It’s been an intense few weeks, with participants putting in extra hours to bring everything together and complete their projects. We’re incredibly proud of what they’ve managed to achieve in just 12 weeks.
The final showcase of the year
The cohort set up their projects on the ground floor of BOM and we opened our doors to industry folks and BOM friends. During the event, visitors were able to network, chat with our bootcampers and interact with their projects.
The experiences were wide-ranging and included games inspired by 90s video games, an interactive exhibition, a wonderful short animation, the reimagining of Priory Square in Birmingham, a game inspired by Ukrainian folklore – among many others. It’s been an absolute pleasure getting to know this cohort and we look forward to seeing what they do next with their new XR skills.
Virtual Production Tour
During the event, we also held a Virtual Production Tour, sharing more about the capabilities of our Virtual Production Suite. Our team demonstrated real-time performance capture on screen using the Rokoko suit and Unreal Engine, giving a glimpse into what’s possible in the space. It was fantastic to welcome so many new people into the space. If you’re curious about this space or how we can work with you, find out more here.
Finding your future – a Creative Industries Panel
Our Creative Industries Panel has now become a regular part of our showcases, offering both visitors and bootcampers the chance to learn from industry experts.
We were thrilled to welcome Rem Conway, Development Producer at Kudos Knight; Delia Nadoleanu, Producer at Sega HARDlight; and Jamie Bakewell, Creative Director and Founder of Bigtooth Studios. Hosted by our Head of Programme, Caroline White the panellists shared stories from their careers and offered insightful and valuable advice. They reflected on both the highs and lows of their journeys, reminding us that creative careers are rarely a straight line.
Thank you to the panel and to everyone who asked questions – there were so many great conversations!
Next Year
Applications are now closed for our next bootcamp and we’re excited to meet our new cohort when they begin the course in January. Stay tuned as they progress and we’ll be announcing the next showcase in the spring.
While applications have closed, we’re also running free Immersive Workshops powered by CreaTech Frontiers from January to February. These half-day taster sessions cover a range of topics, from managing XR projects to AI for content creation and virtual production. Workshops are booked individually – take a look here.
Our Immersive Arts Bootcamp is funded by WMCA and Arts Council.
