A social impact partnership with Electronic Arts, working with young people exploring careers in the gaming industry and learning about innovation in eSports.
This programme is designed with young people in mind, working with youth groups in Birmingham through a series of workshops. The aim is to provide learners with insights into the roles and careers in the gaming industry, such as EA F1, and inspire creative innovation and thought leadership towards socially impactful interventions for the gaming industry.
An insight into the gaming industry
The first programme involved working with young participants from Free@Last Youth Centre in Nechells.
Taking place during the summer holidays, their introductory session included a meeting with EA‘s Laura Morgan, Development Manager in its F1 division. Laura shared insights into EA, her role and her career journey.
Hands-on Workshops
Our Senior Producer, Adanna Davis-Waite, led additional hands-on workshops where the young learners explored wellbeing, diversity and accessibility in gaming. This involved testing their knowledge by watching F1 gameplay and comparing online mini-games.
They were set a series of tasks which included exploring Tinkercad, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. They also designed their own avatars and learned about the limitations in gaming and the impact on diversity.

After a busy week of learning, they celebrated the end of the weeklong programme with a visit to F1 Arcade in Birmingham! They had a great afternoon, competing with each other in the exciting simulated F1 environment.
Huge thanks to the team at EA for their partnership on this summer activity! We loved working with Free@Last, taking part in their summer activity and spending time with the kids from the youth group. We look forward to the next opportunity to bring this programme to other youth groups in the region.
